But even as its genre slips, this ratings juggernaut maintains its perch, with celebrity coaches and a virtuous circle of self-promotion allowing big musical talent to become even bigger -- and entertain America in the process.

At a press luncheon for the show earlier this month, the coaches and host Carson Daly—minus Williams—discussed the new group’s dynamic and how Levine and Shelton welcomed the two newcomers into the fold.
