The Voice Coaches

SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: All right. Well now to a show that gets people talking, The Voice. And Carson brought this season's coaches together for this very candid conversation. Take a look.

(Begin VT)

CARSON DALY: Season seven coaches, good to see you guys. Congratulations on a great, great season.

GWEN STEFANI: Thank you.

CARSON DALY: Gwen, Pharrell, you both are new. What's it been like, Gwen?

GWEN STEFANI: It's been incredible. I was thinking about this on the way here driving over, and if they called us, you know, like, okay we're changing the show, one of the coach is going to be eliminated today, this is you're going to have to go home and this was the end, I would be devastated.

CARSON DALY: You bring these two to the table this season. It seems like you've had to really up your game as far as building your team early.

ADAM LEVINE: Yeah. I mean, these guys are competitive without even having to be competitive, because they're them. You know what I mean? It's not like-- that's awesome, too, because I like it to be fun.

CARSON DALY: Like you're like don't go with Pharrell, go with me. Don't go with Gwen, they're awesome.

ADAM LEVINE: Well meanwhile, I'm thinking to myself I would go one of you guys, too.

CARSON DALY: Like what is it for you during the blind audition now? What-- what do you hear that makes you hit your button after doing the show for so many seasons?

BLAKE SHELTON: God, I hate that question.

CARSON DALY: I'll edit that out.

GWEN STEFANI: I can answer that. You just-- all you can hear is alcohol, right?

BLAKE SHELTON: That's all I hear, just bubbling.

ADAM LEVINE: It's like a cash register sound.

BLAKE SHELTON: I don't look for a specific thing. I just look-- I just wait for something to move me. And-- and you never know what that's going to be. It's no different than driving around in your car listening to the radio. If a song comes on that you get pumped up about, you turn it up. You know, that's kind of what that button represents to me, is just that moment of, you know, I like that and-- and--

CARSON DALY: And you go for it?

BLAKE SHELTON: Absolutely.

CARSON DALY: Pharrell, what's it been like for you? You've watched the show, but being on it, describe that.

PHARELL WILLIAMS: It's uh-- it's crazy because you know you speak to your friends and like, dude, how come you didn't turn around?

CARSON DALY: Come on, Pharrell!

PHARELL WILLIAMS: Just do a very simple exercise, okay? Close your eyes and just see if you would push your button. You would be very surprised. It's not exactly what you think.

CARSON DALY: The lead singer, the two of the greatest bands to ever come out of Southern California, they never met until this season.

PHARELL WILLIAMS: Crazy.

GWEN STEFANI: From the moment I met you, I was like--

ADAM LEVINE: Like I knew, yeah.

GWEN STEFANI: --I knew you forever. It's weird.

ADAM LEVINE: They're not my colleagues as much as they are my friends and my peers like that's the coolest thing about this show is that we're in this unique position to make friends with our peers. And I think that at a lot of times for various different reasons we're not able to make these kind friendships. And I love the fact that this show has produced all these wonderful friends.

PHARELL WILLIAMS: I was at Blake's house last night.

CARSON DALY: You were?

PHARELL WILLIAMS: Yeah. It's a pretty cool place.

CARSON DALY: Didn't have much food. Did you notice that?

PHARELL WILLIAMS: Yeah.

CARSON DALY: He's got Velveeta mac and cheese, a lot of beef turkey--

BLAKE SHELTON: And vodka.

CARSON DALY: And vodka. Yeah.

ADAM LEVINE: His misses his home so much, he puts up like cardboard deer all over the backyard.

CARSON DALY: You've to step over the shotguns and guitars just to get to the couch. Listen, guys, thanks for a great season. Best of luck with the live shows.
