Gwen Stefani on Her New Music: 'I Have Nothing to Hide'

Gwen Stefani is the queen of fashion, but these days, she’s been attached to one low-key tee.

“Everything that I wear is always typically directly linked to my mood,” the Voice coach told PEOPLE at a Harajuku Lovers event at Duff’s Cakemix Thursday night.

“Right now, I’m writing and I’ve worn the same things over and over and over. There’s one black shirt with holes and I was like, ‘I’m wearing you again today. You deserve it. You’re bringing me something!’ ”

Recording since June for her upcoming album, Stefani added two more new songs to her batch this week.

“It was crazy how it happened,” says the singer. “The last song I wrote, I literally Tweeted and Instagrammed to people, like ‘Please, I’m going in now. Send it out.’ And I walked in the room and within 15 to 20 minutes, I had an entire song. I’ve been listening to that for 24 hours straight.”

The No Doubt rocker’s new album will be honest and vulnerable. “I have nothing to hide,” she says about opening up through her music. “I always have [been truthful].”

Stefani, who has three sons – Kingston, 9, Zuma, 7, and Apollo, 18 months – with ex Gavin Rossdale, teamed up with Chasing Fireflies for an exclusive children’s collection with her Harajuku Lovers line.

“They’ve been so generous,” says Stefani of working with Chasing Fireflies. “They really want luxurious clothes. They want more ruffles and they want more sparkles, and that’s obviously right up my alley. My best work I’ve ever done is always collaborative.”
