Shelton celebrates 2 more No. 1 hits
Blake Shelton celebrated his 10th and 11th consecutive No. 1 songs -- "Boys 'Round Here" and "Mine Would Be You" -- this week with a party at Starstruck, the company that manages him.
Shelton was joined by the songwriters responsible for the career milestone. Rhett Akins, Dallas Davidson and Craig Wiseman wrote "Boys 'Round Here," and Connie Harrington, Jessi Alexander and Deric Ruttan penned "Mine Would Be You."
"You almost feel guilty sometimes, you know," Shelton said of his string of No. 1 hits. "But it's easy to get over that when I think about back in the day when I was just struggling to get something on the radio and just remembering what those days were like. You were living from one song to the next, lucky to have anything on the radio, hoping that one would create enough momentum to get the next one going."
Shelton said he realizes a string of career events had to line up at the right time -- his hosting gig at the Academy of Country Music Awards, his position as a coach on television reality talent show "The Voice" and finding the right songs -- to get him to his point in his career.
"They just kind of fell out of the sky and helped create this situation," he said. "You get this kind of momentum going and one goes No. 1 and the next one does and the next one, and then finally I'm sitting here right now (with 11 No. 1 songs in a row). You end up at that place, and it's ridiculous. It's stupid."
Shelton's new single, "Doin' What She Likes," is now on country radio. The new season of "The Voice" premieres at 7 p.m. Monday on NBC.
