Blake Shelton Jokes About His CMA Awards Style
Miranda Lambert and fiancé Blake Shelton will compete against each other in three categories at the 44th Annual CMA Awards Show Wednesday night – but there is no competition between them when it comes to fashion.
Lambert will show off her newly svelte size 6 figure in four different outfits during the awards show. “One for walking, two for my performances and one for sitting,” she said during rehearsals at Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville. “I just haven’t narrowed all the choices down yet.”
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Shelton joked, “I’ve just got one outfit but I’m mixing it up – a Dolce & Gabbana jacket and OshKosh B’Gosh overalls. Or maybe Jordache jeans. I’ll see how I feel right before the show.”
Shelton confessed that he hates getting dressed up, thanks to residual trauma from his days as a pageant contestant back in Oklahoma. “The first times I sang on stage were in beauty pageants,” he said. “I was six or seven. I didn’t have much of a choice – my mom used to make me.”
In fact he says, his mom would resort to bribes. “She said she would buy me a guinea pig or a hamster if I would do it,” he added. “It was serious blue ribbon winning business I pretty much dominated since I was the only boy.”
Shelton could also dominate in the male vocalist category at the CMA Awards, as well as take home an award for musical event with his Hillbilly Bone partner Trace Adkins.
Shelton and Lambert – who has nine nominations – will celebrate either way after the show since Wednesday is also her 27th birthday.
Shelton’s first greatest hits album, Loaded, has just been released.
