My First Job: Blake Shelton

Blake Shelton’s Oklahoma is showing.

Born in Ada, 80 miles southeast of Oklahoma City, Shelton spent his summers sweltering on rooftops working for for his stepdad, who coincidentally was also a the “roofing boss,” according to Shelton.

Shelton made $8 an hour roofing houses as a 15-year-old.

And “like any 15 year old in Oklahoma, I found someone who was 21 to give the money to,” said Shelton.

His drink of choice was Bud Light, but Shelton says he wasn’t picky.

A summer job, the country music singer says he didn’t take it too seriously. He learned to always have an open mind and a firm handshake, but kept the atmosphere light during working hours.

“You can never have another first job so you best enjoy it all you can,” said Shelton.
