Frequently Asked Questions

I heard on mtv news a while back that no doubt collaberated with beenie man on a song called "magic" to appear on the bridget jones diary....my question is is this true and if so how come its not on the track listing of the soundtrack.... Ps you rock
The Neptunes did a remix of our song "Magic's in the Makeup" with guest vocals from Beenie Man. But at the last minute the Bridget Jones movie people decided not to use it. So it's never been released.  - Tom Dumont

Hello, I wanted to know if you would come back to philly, so you could do a second concert. I personally don't think you get any publicity or advertisement when you come to town, it's pretty much word of mouth. Or why can't you play at a bigger concert hall/stadium like the 'First Union Center'? I love you guys and everything you do. And every chance I get I vote for you on TRL. Best of luck on the rest of the tour. Sincerely a fan, Dorothy Getz P.S. Love the new album!!!!
Dorothy, We're aware that our current U.S. tour sold out very quickly and that many people aren't getting a chance to see us this Spring. So we've decided to do another U.S. tour later this year, in bigger places, and in more cities. Keep watching the tour dates section of the website here, our shows are always announced here first.  - Tom Dumont

how come i cant download any of the full songs from Rock Steady on KaZaAyou get most of the song but not all of it thanks /~steve-o~/
I have no idea why you can't get the whole song online, but why don't you just buy the album? We have the full versions on there! :)  - Tom Dumont

from Kate 4/5/2002
My friend's mom and brother saw you guys at Barnes and Noble in Kansas City on the Plaza. They said that some camera guy was filming you. Is there any way we can see it? It would be soo awesome! We love you guys so much!
Its true we were hanging out there in KC yesterday. We're on tour right now and as you can see from our schedule, we move from one city to the next day after day. We're pretty normal and we like to hang out in each town. Last night we went to the Empire room and the Hurricane as well. If you have any suggestions on where to hang out while we're on tour, let us know.  - Tom Dumont

Eric left No Doubt in 1995 before the release of Tragic Kingdom.  - Tom Dumont

One tour date in Canada!!! What's up with that?
Good question. The answer is: be patient. :) We'll definately play more of Canada this year, but it's a big planet and it'll take a few more months before we hit all of Canada. We're touring nonstop for the rest of the year and we'll get there eventually...  - Tom Dumont

from Dingdong 4/8/2002
How can I get backstage to meet you guys at your concerts?
The only people coming backstage to hang out are friends and family, pretty much. We caught someone selling fake packstage passes, so don't don't buy any! fake ones won't get you backstage! You can't buy real ones, you can only get them from us in the band personally.  - Tom Dumont

I went to high school with a member of the faint. I was wondering what you think of their music and why did you choose to have them open for you since they have a different fan following and style of music.
Tha Faint are rad. We asked them to tour with us because we like them and thought our fans might too. Its cool if they sound different from us, because diversity is often compelling.  - Tom Dumont

from Lisa Patrice Howell 4/8/2002
Hey! I just saw you guys in Indiana, and I was so impressed with the quality of your concert. You played EVERY song that we were hoping to hear. Thank you so much for such an incredible concert. You are truly the BEST.
Thanks Lisa, we had a really good one tonight. The shows are totally rocking and we're getting overwhelming energy from everyone out there. Same goes for Chicago 2 nights ago at the Aragon.  - Tom Dumont

from richard garabedian 4/8/2002
I just bought your CD Rock Steady as I fell in love with the "Hella Good" song. I popped it in my computer, and see the great videos, but why can't I play it as a music CD? I can play the music in my car but not on my computer? What gives?
No idea. Return it to the store for an exchange I guess. As far as we know Rock Steady has no copy protection stuff on it, so maybe it's just defective.  - Tom Dumont

from Durdy 4/8/2002
I've followed No Doubt's work since I was very young. (7) I fell in love as soon as I heard "Trapped in a box". This new album is nothing like any of your others though, I couldnt help but notice it has a Regae meets punk/pop culture feel. I was just wondering what made yall decide on that type of genre...??? thanx, forever an admirer ~ Lauren
Nothing like our others? I disagree. It's the same people making the music. We messed around with different instruments this time, fooled with synthesisers and gave the guitars a break. We wanted to make a cd that was fun and upbeat, that would rock on the dancefloor and that incorporated dancehall reggae beats. We had an amazing beautiful time writing and recording Rock Steady, and we're proud of it. We like changing things up, we always have and always will. Some people dig it, some don't, and that's cool with us. We love it.  - Tom Dumont

do u actually read everysingle question sent in or do u skim thru them and just read/answer the most interesting ones? i'm still waiting for my question to be answered. i dont mind waiting ..i was just wondering. Hope ur having fun on tour!
Okay this is the honest truth. We get about 1000 questions a day here. I try to read as many as possible, but answering every single one is impossible. I would literally never have time to eat or sleep or play shows if I answered every question. I know that that sucks, but I'll get to the commonly asked ones and do my best. And thanks a ton for taking the time to be fans and to ask!  - Tom Dumont

from Saruca 4/10/2002
Lemme first say that I love No Doubt's music, but after getting to meet you guys in person, I love Gwen Stefani more than the rest of the band. Tony, Tom, Adrian, Gabe, and Steve were almost rude when we met. Maybe it was just one of those days. So my question is this, why do you want to be No Doubt "the band" in magazines and interviews, but when you get around your fans, Gwen has to answer all the questions? Soured Saruca Puerto Rico
Good question. The truth is that regardless of what you may perceive that we "want" to be, we are technically speaking a "band". We write and perform our own songs; we play instruments together and perform concerts. We've been together for over 14 years and we're all best friends. You're totally right to love Gwen the most. She is a sweet and friendly person and deserves your love. Sorry the rest of us were rude, maybe we'll try to be nicer the next time.  - Tom Dumont

from Katy 4/10/2002
I just wanted to say that as artist you are all amazing and so unique and as people you seem so real and fun (No Doubt is like a family to me). I was just wondering why when you play in Pittsburgh you always play in I.C. Light Ampatheater? Is there a reason?
When we book a tour, we usually spend a lot of time trying to pick the right venues in each city. We take into consideration the size, acoustics, open floor vs. seats, facility fees and all sorts of stuff to make it the best show we can. Sometimes our choices are good, sometimes imperfect. In Pittsburgh, the I.C Light seems perfect, what do you think?  - Tom Dumont

 from Nadine 4/10/2002
Hey! I saw you guys play last night at the state theater in Detroit, and had the most amazing time! I am so glad you guys are still singing lots of the older songs...I just wanted to tell you how much you guys rocked! If you need a cool place to hang out, you can always swing by my place next time you're in town! :) Nadine
Thanks Nadine. We had a great time in Detroit. In fact, this whole tour has been awesome, and thats due to the great fans we have like you.  - Tom Dumont

Mullets are fun
I tried to grow a Euro-mullet a few months ago but it didn't look so good. I agree, though that they are very fun.  - Tom Dumont

from Jane 4/10/2002
Hey! I'v been a fan of you guy's (no doubt) ever sence I was little even though im only 12 now.My question is are any of your songs writen or dedicated a song to John Spence ?
There was a No Doubt song years ago called "Dear John" that was written in memory of John Spence. It only exists in its original demo form from back in '89 I think. Maybe you can find an mp3 of it online. Good luck.  - Tom Dumont

from Bonnie Hemmings 4/10/2002
hey!!! Don't you think your hey baby hey baby, song is totally different to past records. and that you have gone from a indie rock band to a r'n'b hip hop electro sound??
Isn't it cool? We're proud to have created a body of work that rivals Picasso's for genre-hopping. What an exciting age we live in! Thanks!  - Tom Dumont

from clonedgirl 4/10/2002
i sent you guys an e-mail asking if you guys could send me an autographed cd of the return of saturn. I know yo guys are like really busy. thanks
Sorry but we usually don't send out free cd's in the mail. It's a bummer I know, but typically all bands sell thier cd's. If you want one signed, go buy one and track us down in person for an autograph. Good luck!  - Tom Dumont

Hey NoDoubt what's up? i love your music so much... and i wanted to know How muc longer are you going to stay the same untill you pop out like what brandy did?...because i don't want you to do that cuz i love you guys now and i don't want you to change.
We will always be ourselves and always keep changing. Some people think we "Popped out" back in '95 when we put out Tragic Kingdom. And some people think we "Popped out" again this year with the release of "Rock Steady". I'm glad you don't think we've popped out yet, though.  - Tom Dumont

from Evelyn 4/13/2002
Hi!! I´m writing you from Venezuela. May I say that I truly enjoyed the concert you gave on the CARACAS POP FESTIVAL. Like most people say, you guys really rock!! I just wanted to know your opinion about my country: the way you felt the audience and any other things you may want to talk about. Keep rockin'!
Evelyn, We loved Venezuela. Playing the Caracas Pop Festival last month was one of the most memorable shows we have had in the 15 years of playing as a band. 42,000 people singing along with every song was awesome. Thanks!  - Tony Kanal

from Samuel Stevens 4/13/2002
Does anyone besides Tom answer questions here? Oh yeah, what kinda bass does tony play?
Samuel, I play Yamaha basses and MusicMan basses mostly, but I also have some great Fender basses as well.  - Tony Kanal

from bethany 4/13/2002
first: I LOVE YOU GUYS! i saw you in LA and were just everything i had hoped for and more. ok, so who are the other two guys in the Sunday Morning video? the ones on the porch. thanks so much! Love you adrain, gwen, tom, tony!!!!
The two guys hanging on the porch in the Sunday Morning video are our good friends Donnie Spada and Robert Ortiz. You can also spot Eric Stefani lying on the driveway and Terry Hall (of the Specials) sitting on the swinging bench.  - Tony Kanal

Hey there....Just want to say that I went to the concert in Toronto on Thursday, and you guys rocked...loved how small the venue was...just wondering if you'll be planning another T.O trip sometime soon...
Glad you enjoyed the show. We are planning on playing festivals in Europe this summer followed by a trip to Asia and Australia after that. We should be back touring Nor th America sometime in the fall.  - Tony Kanal

hey guys, I was just at your show in Toronto the other night, you guys put on a great show. Thanks so much. I was just wondering, I have been trying really hard to find info on the band that you guys are touring with, the Faint. I thought they were great and I am interested in getting a couple of their cds. Could you possibley direct me to their web site or give me some info on them?
Thanks   I agree, The Faint are a great band. Check out http://thefaint.com/  - Tony Kanal

Hey... what's up? Wel I just saw this thing on MTv and Gwen was on it.. she was voted #6 for the most sexiest music artist. And I was just wondering.. is her first name really Gwendolyn? Thanks a bunch! ~nXd fan always <
Gwen's first name is Gwen. Just Gwen. No -dolyn or anything like that.  - Tom Dumont

from Hitomi 4/16/2002
Hey No Doubt, I'm glad that you are doing smaller venues, because to me, it feels much more personal. Ok, my question is Does Adrian always do weird stunts (like the frog episode) for money or just because he felt like it? If he does, do you think you can share some stories with us? I'm also very excited to see you thursday at Roseland. And I'm glad you'll be coming back around to the states in the fall, my friends and I can't get enough of you guys. Thanks for rocking on!
Adrian is a very spontaneous guy, and the funny stuff he does is usually intended to make his friends laugh. By the way, the frog was completely unharmed in that incident!  - Tom Dumont

Tom, my gutair teachor tells me that i need a smaller gutair ((small fingers lol)) and I really like my gutair right now and I have to struggle to play simple notes and I was wondering if this has ever happened to you and also if I was to get a new one which gutair should I buy that would be good for me???
your guitar teacher probably knows whats best for you, but you should do whatever makes you feel comfortable. If you're going to buy a new guitar I would have to suggest Hamer, they are the guitars I play, and they're obviously great. good luck.  - Tom Dumont

I recently became a No Doubt fan after seeing the VH-1 Behind the Music. You have a really fresh sound, and it's nice to hear different styles from the same band. So how much "free" time you spend keeping up with today's musical trends? Who are some new hip acts that you like? You ever go see anyone else in concert?
Right now I'm into the Faint , who's on tour with us and has a great new cd out called Dance Macabre. Also I just picked up this cd called "The Teaches of Peaches" which is very excellent.  - Tom Dumont

from Lara 4/23/2002
I heard Gwen was sick and shows were cancelled. Does Gwen have the flu? Are you guys still planning to tour the US again in the fall? Get well soon Gwen!
Hey we are in Philadelphia and I am trying to recover from being sick for over two weeks straight! Touring is very physically demanding and I give it everything I have every night. It is hard to stay healthy when you are traveling and meeting so many different people everyday. Chances are some of them are sick and germs are everywhere in the clubs. Think how many hands I shake!! This is why I don't give kisses and hugs...getting sick means canceling shows and that really sucks. The worst thing for me is doing a show when I'm not at my best. It is a horrible feeling. I will soon be healthy again and ready and excited to do the shows feeling good and without a sore throat. Hope you understand.  - Gwen Stefani
