Gwen Stefani on Those ‘Cute’ Husband Comments About Blake Shelton, Plus: She Talks ‘The Voice’
Singer Gwen Stefani is talking life in quarantine with Blake Shelton, those “cute” husband comments people make about him, and their return to “The Voice”!
“Extra’s” Cheslie Kryst caught up with Gwen, who was joined by her “Voice” battle rounds advisor Julia Michaels.
Cheslie asked about life in lockdown for Gwen and Blake, and Stefani revealed, “He left to go back to Oklahoma. That’s, like, the first time we've been apart in six months… But to be able to pause for a minute and be there with the boys and be in Oklahoma… he really has a stunning ranch.”
She added with a laugh, “We were a grandma and a grandpa on a farm!”
Kryst brought up Gwen’s recent interview with Dua Lipa, pointing out that Dua referred to Blake as Gwen’s husband. Stefani replied, “Do you know how many people say my ‘husband’ about him? I guess we’re just together… people got used to it or something like that, but it’s pretty cute.” She did insist, “he’s not” her husband.
The not-married pair did manage to release a new song in quarantine called “Happy Anywhere,” and Gwen said, “If we’re working, if we’re on the ranch, if we’re in this crisis, this world pandemic, we’re finding happiness, and these things always unfold as they should.”
Fans will get to see more of Gwen and Blake when “The Voice” returns to NBC on October 19 for the Blind Auditions. What can the audience expect from the coaches, who will also include John Legend and Kelly Clarkson?
Gwen said, “I feel like Kelly and Blake have been going at it.” She also insisted “John Legend is the one to beat, everyone wants to work with John.” She added, “He’s a funny guy and I feel like now, he knows me and Blake better.”
Michaels will join Stefani for the Battle Rounds — and the women have a musical history!
Julia helped Gwen write her breakup anthem “Used to Love You” during her split from ex-husband Gavin Rossdale.
Gwen called it one of the “craziest, worst [times],” adding that fortunately “something bad [became] something great.”
She said of working with Julia that it was inspiring “to trust somebody in that moment and to watch her just be so connected to words.”
Julia added, “Yeah, you were really open and you were really vulnerable and you wanted to make art that was true to yourself.”
