Putting the Rock in Rock-A-Bye Baby
Music’s hottest parents invite OK! into their LA mansion to meet newborn baby Kingston
He’s barely two weeks old, but already Kingston James McGregor Rossdale is one of the coolest babies in the world. He’s got a superstar singer and fashion icon for a mom in Gwen Stefani and a rock star dad in Gavin Rossdale. Then there’s his name. Inspired by the Scottish roots of his father, the name also hints at the capital of the Caribbean island of Jamaica — very cosmopolitan. Which brings us to our next reason for applauding Kingston as one cool little dude. Look closely and you’ll see him wearing a T-shirt with a picture of Jamaican reggae legend Bob Marley. On top of all this, with an American mom and a British dad, Kingston has got that whole glamorous, transatlantic thing going on, which is so hip right now. Only got one passport? Pshaw', everybody knows that the cool kids carry' two passports these days in their Louis Vuitton leather travel document case.
Full name: Kingston
James McGregor Rossdale
Born: May 26, 2006
in Los Angeles
Weight: 7.5 lbs.
Gwen, 36, and Gavin, 38, became parents on May 26, w'hen Kingston arrived a week late — fashionably late, of course. The couple’s relatively late start in becoming parents (although Gavin learned in 2004 that he has a teenage daughter — Daisy Lowe — from a previous relationship) has clearly made them cherish their son so much more. They invited OK into their L.A. home to meet their adorable little boy.
Both mom and dad looked energized by the presence of Kingston in their home. The cute baby sat quietly and calmly in his parents’ arms, with only an occasional cry. Gavin said that he had noticed that Kingston’s personality was chilled out. Gwen, as always, looked radiant. The No Doubt singer, who had one of the most famously flat stomachs in showbiz, is eager to get back in shape after giving birth. Gwen said that she couldn't wait to start training again. Proof of that desire to get her figure back was confirmed by Gavin, who announced last week. “She’s out jogging right now!”
Gwen and Gavin, who met in 1995 and married in 2002. have prepared a beautiful home and nursery for Kingston. If you walked into the house not knowing who lived there, a couple of clues might give away the identity of the owners. We noticed a bib on Kingston's high chair bearing the England flag and a message saying “Come on England,” obviously a purchase by his soccer-loving dad. Gavin, who will watch the progress of the English team in the World Cup tournament going on right now' — when he's not changing diapers, that is.
Another fun in-joke, this time from his mom. is the collection of sniffed toy lambs in Kingston's cot, a nod to the Grammy-winning Gwen’s successful L.A.M.B. clothing line.
Kingston weighed seven and a half pounds when he was born. Gwen underwent a Caesarean section at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Soon after the delivery, a proud and delighted Gavin walked out of the operating room and told their waiting family members the good news, which was greeted by a round of applause, said an eyewitness.
“She’s a top girl,” said the proud husband of his wife. They met in 1995 when No Doubt opened for Gavin’s band Bush. “We’re made for each other,” added Gavin. Since marrying in England in 2002, Gwen and Gavin have notched up plenty of air miles, crisscrossing the Atlantic between their homes in L.A. and London. Gwen is an Anaheim, Calif., native and Gavin was born in Kilburn, in Northwest London. They split their time between their homes in Los Feliz, Calif., and the trendy Primrose Hill area of north London. Gwen bought the Los Feliz estate in 1998 long before she married Gavin. “I love this place so much,” she once said. “I moved out of my parents' house and into this.” Although there have been many renovations to make room for Kingston, Gwen admits the house may still be too small for the three of them. “We’re probably going to have to move,” Gwen explained. “My husband wants to write songs, and there’s no more room. He can’t have a studio next to the baby’s room.”
