No Doubt Will 'Absolutely' Tour Again, Says Tony Kanal
No Doubt will go on tour to support its upcoming new album -- at least, it will if bassist Tony Kanal has anything to say about it.
At his bandmate Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. Spring 2011 runway show for New York Fashion Week Thursday night (Sept. 16), Kanal told Billboard.com that the So-Cal rockers will "absolutely" hit the road for a follow-up to their successful reunion trek last year. "I think it'll be even bigger," Kanal said, "and when I say bigger I mean more shows and around the world."
Kanal said No Doubt is still in the writing phase of its sixth studio set -- its first since 2001's "Rock Steady," before Stefani embarked on a solo career -- and that so far, the process couldn't be going more smoothly.
"I swear, we're having more fun than we've ever had writing a record before," Kanal said. "I think [because] it's been a while, but also because we're older...the fact that we're still doing it together after 24 years -- you know, working on music -- I think we really appreciate that."
Kanal wasn't the only big music name supporting Stefani's L.A.M.B. show last night. The frontwoman and fashion mogul's husband Gavin Rossdale was in attendance with sons Kingston and Zuma. With Kingston on his lap, the Bush frontman snapped photos of models sashaying down the catwalk with his phone and danced in his seat to the show's soundtrack, which included M.I.A., MGMT, Santigold and classic reggae duo Althea & Donna.
Said Kanal to Billboard.com of the playlist, "I think I'll take a little credit. I helped [Gwen] pick out some of the songs tonight. Santigold, the Diplo remix, Althea & Donna and all the reggae stuff. It's all the stuff we're listening to right now, while we're working on the record. So it all just made sense and it came together."
Also seated in the front row were music moguls Jimmy Iovine and Russell Simmons, Blondie's Debbie Harry, Spice Girl Mel B and R&B singer Omarion. Even more celebs hit up the after-party, held at an art gallery in New York's Meatpacking District: as Kanye West walked in, the DJ acknowledged the rapper/producer's arrival by playing his new song, "Power."
But the night's big star was Stefani, who launched L.A.M.B. in 2003 and just keeps growing as a fashion mogul. "I'm just always impressed with what Gwen pulls off," Kanal said. "She's amazing."
