No Doubt could be no more. Guitarist Tom Dumont says the band is on a permanent hiatus so front-woman Gwen Stefani can tick off a very long to-do list.

The band just released Singles 1992-2003, a compilation of their singles from the past 12 years, and have shot a video for the new single, a cover of Talk Talk's It's My Life.

But Tom told SLM's Matt Frilingos that's about it for now - or forever. Gwen is currently filming her acting debut alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett and Kate Beckinsale in The Aviator, about eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes.

Tom said No Doubt was originally on ice for six months so they could rest after a hectic schedule. "We decided we were going to take this year off so Gwen could pursue a bunch of her own stuff," Tom says.

"Gwen's crazy, she's got a clothing line she's gonna put out and she's trying to film movies - she just did a small part in one and she's looking at others and she also wanted to make a solo record. So it felt like a good time to take a break, because we'd been working really hard for seven years."

After working on the new record, the future is unclear.

"It's kind of a big question mark in all our minds ... if Gwen makes movies and has babies and stuff, it could be a long time."
