No Doubt talks about the art of survival

No Doubt launches its first headlining arena tour on Tuesday in Sacramento, a trip that will keep the band on the road through July 3, wrapping up in the Chicago suburb of Tinley Park.

No Doubt's also on the cover of the new "Rolling Stone," in which band members vent a bit about the media's inevitable focus on singer Gwen Stefani. The band acts out some of that psychodrama in the video for "Don't Speak," a song Stefani originally wrote about her breakup with bassist Tony Kanal.

Recently, we spoke with No Doubt guitarist Tom Dumont about the tension that can go with "the Gwen thing," and he noted that it's never been a huge stumbling block. "The situation is, that we've been in this band for 10 years, at least I've been in it, and me and Adrian... for eight years, we've been together, and we have our little fights about things," Dumont said. "Obviously, in any kind of relationship, you always have tensions sometimes, but no matter what's happened, whether it's surviving tragic things that have happened within the band, or loss of band members, or whatever it is, we've gone through. We've always persevered, and we've never had a problem being the best of friends after the tension was over."

No Doubt hits the road with Cake on Tuesday at Sacramento's ARCO Arena.
