Double Talk: Blake Shelton & RaeLynn

The Season 2 Voice album reunites with her celeb coach on-set of NBC’s hit show

It’s been almost five years since RaeLynn appeared on the show. Blake, what’s your first memory of her?

SHELTON I’ll never forget when she auditioned, as corny as that sounds. I turned around and saw her face, and it was like I was looking at somebody I’ve known my whole life.

RAELYNN It’s ’cause I’m from Texas! Adam and Blake were the only two who turned around for me.

SHELTON Can you imagine what a disaster your life would’ve been if you had picked him as coach?

RaeLynn was just 17 when she auditioned. Now she’s all grown up. What’s been the biggest change?

SHELTON Somehow she looks smaller. You stopped growing when you auditioned for the show. You’re the exact same size as you were then.

RAELYNN He still looks at me like I’m 15 or 16, but I’m 22 and married now!

SHELTON Adam and I can now swear and make our dirty jokes with each other and not feel bad about it anymore. Now it’s just inconsiderate, but before it was inappropriate.

What do you guys like to do when you aren’t performing together?

RAELYNN I feel like my favorite thing' to do is get Mexican food together. The more queso and chips I can find, the happier I am.

SHELTON She can eat it and look like that, and I eat it and look like this. But at this point it’d be easier for me to think of a favorite moment with somebody that I only kind of know, versus somebody like her. That’s like asking you, “What’s your favorite memory with your sister?”

RAELYNN He is like my dad or brother. There have been times where I wanted to give up as an artist, and Blake was like, “Rae, you were meant for this. We’re gonna figure it out.” I love him to death!
