Changing The Gang
Jennifer, earlier this year your team won on the U.K. version of The Voice. Do you feel like the new kid here?
JENNIFER HUDSON: Yes, when I have to keep up with all of these personalities! It takes awhile to get used to the rhythm of things, especially when it’s old people like this who have been on the show since the beginning of time.
BLAKE SHELTON: She means old like “old boy,” not old old. I go out of my way to give her a hard time. It’s my new passion.
ADAM LEVINE: She’s mellow and lays in the cut. Alicia [Keys] came at me.
Who surprised you the most?
HUDSON: Miley. She’s so young yet experienced and knows what she’s talking about. She never stops and tells me to go harder.
MILEY CYRUS: We have different tactics. I very much speak from the heart and my pitches are emotional, but something Jennifer has on all of us is [her American Idol] background.
Which of your songs would you be happy to retire?
CYRUS: “Wrecking Ball.” Ew.
SHELTON: I’m gonna say “Hillbilly Bone” because sometimes with kids at a concert, it’s uncomfortable.
LEVINE: I’ll tell you a song I don’t want to sing. “Love Somebody” is so high. I need to take it down a half step.
HUDSON: If it didn’t pay my bills, I’d say “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.” My son [David, 8] is like, “She’s singing that song again.” But it’s all people want to hear!
