Blake Shelton talks about his duds—and reveals his best - and worst - dressed picks
Blake Shelton didn’t even wear a tuxedo to his own wedding—but here he is in our magazine, sporting a monkey suit. “Well, Country Weekly is very powerful,” he jokes, explaining how our photo shoot turned an Oklahoma country boy into a Dapper Dan. The very idea of it makes Blake—who describes his personal style as “pretty horrible”—laugh heartily.
"Usually whatever’s clean, whether it matches or not, is what I’m wearing,” he admits. “Normally it’s a pair of Wranglers and a sweatshirt or a T-shirt.”
When Blake first hit the charts in 2001 with his No. 1 debut single, “Austin,” his look was a decidedly western, hat/boots/jeans combo. Today, not much has changed. “As far as the way I dress,” he declares, “I’ve always known who I am.”
Blake also knows a great song. His new single is a cover of the 1988 Conway Twitty ballad “Goodbye Time.” Appropriate title, because as Blake leaves our photo shoot to entertain his fans, it’s “goodbye time” for that tux. “That would’ve been hilarious, to step out onstage tonight with that thing on, to see the looks on people’s faces,” laughs Blake. “They would have probably thought it was somebody else!”
Male Worst Dressed
My pick for worst-dressed guy Andy Griggs because he borrows my wife’s clothes. Or at least that’s why he said some of her things were at his house.
Female Worst Dressed
There have been times I've thought Natalie Maines may be blind, ’cause I don’t know you’d do that on purpose.
Female Best Dressed
Shania Twain, just because she normally doesn't wear a whole lot—and I like that a lot.
Male Best Dressed
George Strait. Hat, boots, jeans, and a starched shirt—he’s that American cowboy image.
