Blake Shelton’s bachelor party plans: ‘Find something to hunt’

Blake Shelton, 34, is setting himself up for a busy 2011. Less than three weeks before his wedding to fellow country superstar Miranda Lambert, the Oklahoma native will be hosting the ACM Awards on April 3, and he’s making his reality television debut on April 26 as one of the judges of NBC’s new singing competition The Voice.

Shelton and the rest of the judging panel- Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, and Cee Lo- will do more than offer their opinion to America about which contestant they should vote for: they will also each coach their own team of hopefuls.

Shelton talked to Parade.com about his competitive streak and why he won’t be heading to Las Vegas for his bachelor party.

In it to win it.

“Adam [is my biggest competition]. Cee Lo is not. He’ll compete more with Christina on their outfits. Adam is a smart aleck just like I am. There are no boundaries with he and I and we’re willing to do anything to get the people that we want on our team and say anything. We’re probably not as afraid to hurt the other coaches’ feelings to win this thing.”

Slam dunk opportunity.

“I remember thinking, ‘Wait a minute, that is a cool lineup, why are they talking to me?’ I thinking knowing the other judges involved and Carson [Daly, the host], and Mark [Burnett, producer], it was a no-brainer for me to get involved because I knew that group of people brings so much credibility to a show like this.”

Expanding his horizons.

“I think people are going to expect me to pick the first guy that steps up here and sings a George Strait song. I may, if I think he’s a great singer, but I may also pick a girl who comes up here and sings an Aretha Franklin song. I just know what I like when I hear it and it’s really hard to explain. It’s just something that happens.”

His winning approach.

“I can’t tell you what genre Maroon 5 is in. I don’t know if they’re rock or pop or alternative. I don’t know what they are. I have a hard time separating that stuff. I just know what I like when I hear it. If I like it, I’ll buy it and that’s how I’m going to treat sitting in this [judging] chair.”

Making time for a honeymoon.

“I tell you what: when you are getting married to Miranda Lambert, you’re going to make time for whatever she wants. So that’s also a no-brainer. She’ll have the wedding and the time with me she wants, whether I like it or not.”

His bachelor “party”

“I think me and my buddies are going to take a camping trip somewhere. Maybe try to find something to go hunt. Turkey or bears or something like that. Something country. The last ten years of my life has been a bachelor party, so I don’t need an extra one night to add to my life. I’ve had plenty of that stuff.”
