Blake Shelton plans to make Miranda Lambert’s CMT Awards his own
Look, Blake Shelton's a pretty big star in his own right, what with his gig on "The Voice" and yet another hit album — Based on a True Story — riding high on the charts. But at Wednesday night's CMT Music Awards, Shelton will take a back seat to his better half, country star Miranda Lambert.
After all, she's up for four awards, including Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year for her hit "Mama's Broken Heart," and Group Video of the Year for the Pistol Annies' "Takin' Pills." Meanwhile, Shelton scored just one nom: Male Video of the Year for "Sure Be Cool If You Did." So the chances are pretty good Lambert will be taking home more hardware than her husband ... though, that's fine with him. Turns out, most folks can't tell the difference once the awards are up on the mantle.
"You know, as long as one of us wins; people, when they walk in our house, they see some awards on the shelf, but they never really walk over and read 'em," Shelton said. "So if they see one of her awards sitting there, they'll be like 'Oh, what did Miranda get a Grammy for?' And I'll say 'Oh, that's mine.' And they say 'Oh, that is yours.'
"I'll do the same thing with these CMT Awards," he continued. "As long as it's on the shelf, and people don't actually read the plaque, that's mine.”
