Why Blake Shelton Hates Dressing Up: 'It's Hard for Me to Disguise Man Boobs and Gut'
It takes a truly important occasion to get Blake Shelton out of his jeans and cowboy boots and into a tux.
Earlier this year, the singer’s close friends Amanda Craig (who’s also the star’s hair stylist) and Joe Borsky exchanged vows in Nashville, and Shelton – who was accompanied by his ultra-glam girlfriend Gwen Stefani – was forced to ditch his usual duds.
“I had to get a full-on vest and the rented tux and did that whole deal,” he tells PEOPLE exclusively about the last time he went black-tie.
And though he looked quite dapper at the wedding, Shelton says he just wasn’t comfortable getting all suited up.
“If you get dressed up the right way, it should be fitted to you,” he explains. “But when things are fitted to me, it’s hard for me to disguise man boobs and gut and all that stuff, so it’s all sticking out!”
When Shelton and Stefani made their red-carpet debut at Vanity Fair’s post-Oscar bash in March, the star also stuck to his cowboy boots and jeans, and he even sings about accompanying Stefani to swanky events on “A Guy with a Girl.”
“And I’m just the guy with the girl everybody wants to know / Wishin’ you were there alone / Wonderin’ how I ever got your little hand in mine / Lookin’ over at ya like ain’t she beautiful / I’m invisible but I stand right there and smile,” he sings on the track.
The “Came Here to Forget” singer’s tenth studio album If I’m Honest is out Friday.
